Wembley Meantime Event & Play Space
ALD worked with the QED team to deliver a temporary play and events scheme, on the plot known as W08. This plot was opened up to provide temporary public realm complimenting the existing streetscape and hierarchy of open spaces around Wembley, adjacent to the London Designer Outlet Centre.
Following receipt of the client brief, ALD won the right to deliver our proposed vision by winning the W08 Design Competition Submission. QED established a series of event and play space requirements, which we worked into our initial concept retaining the desired flexibility of this multi-use space. Design team workshops saw the consultancy focus move into a ‘cost check’ phase, before the scheme was progressed into detailed design for construction, working closely with QED’s established team on site less than 6 months from inception. Opened May 2014, Wembley meantime has been very successful, playing host visiting fans and events, but also as a moment of playful greenery when Wembley is between hosting the Nation’s biggest dates.
The space has a been used extensively over the past 3 years as a Play Area, Fanzone, Ice Rink, Market, Food Court and Exhibition Space.
