South Plaza, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

The South Plaza described as a 21st century pleasure garden is the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park’s main destination for events, culture and entertainment. ALD were fortunate to be in a position to work alongside the landscape contractor Willerby Landscapes on this incredible opportunity, providing them with the technical detailing and design to support their design and build contract. 

The works encompassed the detail design of 3 of the main viewing areas within the south park plaza area, known as:

• Carpenters Lock

• The Theatre Room

• City Mills Terrace (looks back to the Stadium)

The elements of support provided range from DDA compliance checks, technical detailing, water feature layouts, level profiles for numerous steps and bleachers, stage design, handrail positioning, timber profiling, and fixing details.  Coordination with existing and proposed services represent a challenge. And close attention to material components and sizes aims to facilitate off site fabrication where possible to drive program gains and minimise waste.
