London Dock, Wapping

Working closely with Patel Taylor Architects to develop the masterplan for this exciting and exclusive new residential development in the centre of London on the former News International site. The landscape works consist of a series of public spaces, connecting features and extensive water features. Innovative features within the design such as the ‘Dissolving Blocks’ water feature have been taken from conceptual level through to detail construction information. There is a strong spatial hierarchy within the scheme with the ‘Arrival Square’ leading into the central public open space - the ‘Gauging Square’.

There are linear routes through inter-linking spaces via a waterside ‘Promenade’ as well as a ‘Quayside’ route. The extensive site analysis identified the need to maintain a connection with the ‘Docklands’ and historic background of the site which lies within the Tobacco Dock area

ALD have taken the conceptual design and developed the technical details into construction drawings for tender purposes. As well as this technical role ALD are also responsible for coordinating sub consultants and have a QA role onsite ensuring the high standard of finish within the high-end development is reflected in the external works package. Recognised as an exemplar open space / roof garden scheme show-cased by researchers, designers and organisations (including CABE).
