Jubilee Gardens
ALD were appointed by Frost Landscapes to assist in the construction phase of the project by providing the Landscape Design Manager Role, coordinating submittals and design development undertaken by the novated design team. This has given us a real insight into the whys and wherefores encountered by Construction and Project Managers with whom Landscape Architects normally interface. Jubilee Gardens is a high profile space in central London situated to the base of the EDF Energy’s London Eye on London’s South Bank, the redevelopment of the park opened up a brand new landmark space which currently attracts 25 million visitors per year.
ALD’s role was to help facilitate the smooth running of the contract, interfacing with the client team and ensuring all proposals met with the relevant quality standards and safety regulations, also resulting in recognition through a BALI Award 2012. The softworks design features species designed to create strong year-round colour and interest. ALD were involved in preparing the softworks proposals to allow for seasonal change-overs as part of the maintenance plan. Species were selected to create evergreen structure whilst also creating swathes of colour through the planting of bulbs and evergreen perennials. Due to the heavy use of the public open space there was also a requirement for the softworks proposals to be robust enough to withstand this.
