21 Manresa, Chelsea

An innovative design proposal which reflects the dynamics of the of a Grade II Listed façade, to the Manresa Road Frontage, which is mimicked in modernist style as a new rear façade facing the new roof top garden space. As a relatively large residential garden, this was an opportunity to create a series of ’outdoor’ rooms which extended perpendicular along the entire length of the residential building to make the space feel larger. The individual courtyards and spaces, opened up through a tapestry of framed windows and arched doorways, creating privacy, and places to come together.

The semi-private garden is designed and constructed over basement car parking – where steps in structural slabs and integration of movement joints are seamlessly hidden into the scheme proposal.  Soil depths are optimized to achieve strategic tree planting and car park venting is masked by the introduction of focal points and screening measures.

Provision of the full range of Landscape Architectural services from initial site surveys, through planning submissions and design development to detailed design of this high specification development.
